Houston – July 10, 2019 – On May 24, founder and CEO of CReed Global Media, Centrell Reed received an international business award and the recognition of the U.S. congress.
In the Ballroom at Bayou Place, the Houston International Trade Development Council’s 6th annual Global 7 Awards presentation honored seven business owners and their’ businesses as part of what makes Houston a competitor in the international marketplace.
Since founding CGM in 2017, Reed provided production services, access to studios, distribution with global On Demand television and music streaming platforms, and innovative approaches to industry issues that Houston faced, like state incentives before the decision by the state legislature for increased funding.
“Now you can be taxed on state income tax. I don’t think that the residents of Texas are going to like that, yet my challenge is since CReed Global Media has been thinking about how we’re going to accomplish this challenge, my challenge is how do we do it different,” Reed said. “My dad always said, make sure to be resourceful.’ And there are a number of ways you can do things, so maybe we step outside of some of the traditional ways of brining an industry to a city.”
For that resourcefulness and the rapid rise of her company, Reed was chosen by the HITDC to receive the 2019 International Rising Star award.
What she didn’t know was that she would be receiving a certificate of recognition from the United States Congress presented by congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
Because of the excitement at the Global 7 Awards she didn’t realize until after the photo ops, networking with different business owners, and dinner with her family what she received from the congress woman.
During dinner Reed sat with family, friends, and the members of her CGM team who weren’t occupied with filming the event.
“I thought, great I got a certificate,” she said. “I didn’t realize at the time how huge it was!”
She recalled driving with her father in the car after the awards ceremony when he asked her to look at what the certificate said, and when she saw it was from the United States Congress, “What did I do to get this,” and, “Oh snap, that means I’ve got to do more,” were the first things Reed said.
